CARSON, Calif. -- Brielle Vidmar tossed her first-career no-hitter Wednesday, leading the Sonoma State softball team to an 8-0 victory in five innings in game one of the doubleheader against host Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson. The Seawolves (16-7, 11-5 CCAA) also won game two to sweep the four-game series with the Toros (1-24, 0-20 CCAA) and extend their win streak to seven games.
It only took five innings, but Vidmar's no-hitter is the 22nd no-hitter in SSU softball history, the last no-no came back on Feb. 27, 2015 when Amanda Llerena held Cal State San Bernardino without a hit. It was also the second no-hitter for Sonoma State against Cal State Dominguez Hills; the first and last time came back on May 4, 1999 when Suzanne Richards no-hit the Toros. Though no Cal State Dominguez Hills batter got a hit off Vidmar in game one on Wednesday, three Toros did reach base -- two via hit by pitch and the other by a walk. Vidmar struckout four in the effort. |

The Dirt Dogs were created in 2007.
In their short history as an organization, the Dirt Dogs have participated in many National Tournaments, attended some of the best college showcases, and have got their players recruited. The History of the Dirt Dog Organization is not as long as some organizations in the Central Valley, but in a matter of a couple of years they have earned the respect of the softball community. The graduating class of 2013 is only the third group of seniors to have come through the organization. With each senior class comes more commitments. One of the differences in this organization is its ability to develop talent and not just manage players. As you are considering teams to join, be sure to look at their premier level team rosters and find out how many of those players were developed by the organization at the younger levels. If there are not that many players, it may be a good indication that the organization did not do an adequate job in preparing younger players for high level competition, had to go outside their organization to find better prepared players, and have not chosen to retain the players who were loyal to them. During 2012 and 2013, the Dirt Dog Organization had teams win the ASA Central Section Association Championships at the 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and 18u levels. By virtue of winning the Association Championships, the teams qualified to attend the ASA National Tournaments for each of these age groups. Additionally, the Dirtdogs are the first team from the Central Section to earn an outright berth to the PGF National Tournament by virtue of earning a berth at the toughest qualifier in the nation - PGF So Cal. In 2012, the Dirt Dog Organization won the 23U ASA Western Nationals. If you want to play for an organization that is currently dominating the ASA Association Championships, earning its way into PGF Nationals, is playing in National Tournaments, AND IS GETTING PLAYERS RECRUITED then we are the organization for you. |
